A few months ago, I was reading Advocacy and Respect for Cyclists’ primer on “Cyclists and the Law” and was surprised to learn that the Ontario Highway Traffic Act contains a provision to prohibit parked motorists from ‘dooring’ cyclists, or others:
165. No person shall, (a) open the door of a motor vehicle on a highway [...]

The Ottawa Cycling Plan was approved by the city Transportation Committee earlier in the week, and is now off to full Council for approval.
